Calif. (KGET) — The United Way of Central Eastern California and Superior Grocers are teaming up for a summer meal initiative, aiming to ensure Kern County children don’t go hungry while school is out
The initiative between the two groups — dubbed as Feeding Families First — comes as the high price of groceries are impacting the wallets of Kern County families — and across the nation

The local United Way chapter and Superior Grocers will be providing $300 to 30 qualifying families through the program to help fight food insecurity in the region, totaling $9,000 in donations
“As we see the cost of basic goods and necessities like food increase, partnerships like Feeding Families First become even more critical to serve our most vulnerable families here in the Central Valley,” said United Way of Central Eastern California’s President and CEO Eric Arias. “United Way of Central Eastern California is grateful to partner with Superior Grocers for a second year in a row to help put food on the table of families who may be struggling financially during these summer months.”

The $9,000 will be distributed across Bakersfield and gift card distributions will occur in partnership with the Bakersfield City School District and the Greenfield Union School District
