Cyberattack pauses Fairlife’s production, working to learn about impact on Webster plant

WEBSTER, N.Y. — Fairlife, the Coca-Cola-owned milk brand, has paused its production across the U.S. after a ransomware cyberattack breached the company’s systems
News10NBC is working to learn more about how the pause is impacting Fairlife’s 745,000-square-foot facility on Tebor Road in Webster, the company’s flagship location for the Northeast. The $650 million facility broke ground in April of 2024 and is expected to ramp up production this year
Coca-Cola said on Thursday that the dairy company identified “unauthorized access by a third party” to some of its systems, including those related to production. It decided to take operations offline to deal with the ransomware
“Product quality and safety have not been impacted,” Coca-Cola said in a statement. “However, as a result of the incident, production operations at fairlife in the United States are temporarily suspended.”
Coca-Cola said it’s working with law enforcement and cybersecurity experts to investigate the ransomware and work toward restoring operations. Check back for updates
Other recent cybersecurity breaches

Earlier this year, the medical supply fulfillment services company Fieldtex Products in Henrietta also had a data breach, and in December, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra had a cybersecurity concern that disrupted networks
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency says the best way to protect data is by using strong passwords with two-factor authentication, being aware of email phishing scams, and maintaining offline, encrypted backups of sensitive data in case of a ransomware attack
