Fresh off a three-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox, the BostonRed Sox continued their winning ways against the New York Mets on Friday … once they finally made it to Queens
The Red Sox were reportedly stuck in Chicago for hours on Friday morning due to multiple plane issues, according to the Boston Globe. That left the team scrambling to try and make it to Friday’s series opener against the Mets despite only having hours to make it all work

The Red Sox were able to get off the ground in Chicago around 3:00 p.m. ET, per reports, and landed just before 5 p.m. The game, which was originally set to start at 7:15 p.m. ET, was delayed to 7:50 p.m., giving the Red Sox an extra 30 or so minutes to get to the park

Still, that gave the team just over two and a half hours to de-board the plane, leave the airport, get to Citi Field and be ready to play
Right away, though, it was the Mets who looked like the ones coming off a long day. On the first play of the game, Anthony Seigler made it to first after Juan Soto dropped a routine fly ball in the outfield. Masataka Yoshida then gave Boston a 2-0 lead after his RBI skipped just fair and got stopped by a tarp, allowing both Seigler and Wilyer Abreu to head home
The Red Sox went on to win the game 6-2, their seventh win in a row

“They were ready to play,” manager Chad Tracy said in a mid-game interview on the broadcast. “Obviously knowing we’re gonna be tired and it’s a (long) day, but we’ve got a job to do, and we’re gonna go play baseball.”
It’s not a great time for the Red Sox to experience friction, with the club playing its best ball of the season. The team entered Friday on a six-game winning streak, and has now won 12 of its last 14
Incredibly, that streak started after the team experienced a different traveling issue, one that caused the team to get home around 5 a.m. ET on a game day. The Red Sox were able to shake off the cobwebs of their overnight flight to defeat the New York Yankees later that night. Boston then swept the Yankees in a four-game series before traveling to play the Washington Nationals. The Nationals took two out of three games from the Red Sox during that series, and are the only team to beat the Red Sox in the past two weeks.
Boston has now proven it can bounce back from plane issues already this season, and it’s not like the Mets have proved particularly challenging for any opponent this season. New York is now 40-54 after Friday’s loss, sitting at the bottom of the NL East
