San Antonio has two of the top100 high schools in the country, according to the latest U.S. News and World Report rankings released Tuesday
BASIS San Antonio Shavano and the Young Women’s Leadership Academy are featured in the 20th annual edition of the national list, which evaluated more than 27,000 schools nationally

“A great high school educates all of its students from different social and economic backgrounds, exposing them to challenging coursework on the path to graduation,” the report says
The report ranked schools based on student performance on state assessments and college-level exams and on graduation rates
BASIS San Antonio Shavano moved up one spot in the national ranking to No. 57 in the country. It wasranked 8th in Texas and the top school in the San Antonio area. It also topped the list of Texas charter schools. BASIS Shavano tied for having the country’s highest proportion of seniors who scored highly on at least one college-level exam.
San Antonio Independent School District’sYoung Women’s Leadership Academy was the No. 100 best high school in America — down two spots from last year. The all-girls school, located on the West Side, is listed as the 11th best high school in the state. It tied for the best graduation rate in the country.

Both BASIS San Antonio Shavano and the Young Women’s Leadership Academy have scored A’s on Texas’state accountability ratings for the past five years
San Antonio also has five of the best high schools in the state, per U.S. News and World Report:
- Comal ISD’sHill Country College Prep is ranked 15th in Texas and No.116 nationally.
- Northside ISD’sHealth Careers High School, a magnet school for students interested in health professions, is 19th in the state.
- IDEA Carver College Preparatory is 34th in the state and the state’s 9th best charter school.
- Comal ISD’sMemorial Early College High School is ranked 72nd in the state. The New Braunfels school had a 100% graduation rate in 2024.
- SST San Antonio College Preparatory High School, a charter school focused on science and technology, is ranked 87th in Texas.

U.S. News bases its ranking on six measures: the proportion of students who took and scored highly on an Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate exam; the percentage of students who took and earned high scores on multiple AP or IB exams; student scores on stateexams; how school test scores compare to U.S. News predictions; how well Black, Hispanic and low-income students performed on state tests; and a school’s 2024graduation rate. State testing data is based on results from the 2023-24year.
