Five Rhode Island schools ranked among the best public high schools in the country in the US News & World Report’s annual rankings
Classical High School in Providence is the highest ranked Rhode Island school at 133 in the nation in the 2026-2027 Best High School Rankings. Rounding out the state’s top schools are Barrington High School (159), East Greenwich High School (551), Portsmouth High School (816), and North Kingstown High School (1,107)
According to US News, the rankings are based on six indicators of school quality, in which testing data factor heavily. The methodology includes scores from state standardized tests and college-level exams such as Advanced Placement, and graduation rates
Schools also are evaluated on how effectively they serve Black and Latino students as well as those living in low-income households
The overall scores show how each school performed compared to 27,000 eligible public schools, with 18,000 ranked
Massachusettscontinues to lead the nation, with 47 percent of its high schools ranked in the top quarter of US high schools, US News reports. The nation’s top-ranked school was Central Magnet School in Murfreesboro, Tenn., the only school to receive a perfect score
The study was conducted by US News in coordination with North Carolina-based RTI Inter<a href="https://todaytrendnews7.com/us-national-debt-passes-record-40-trillion/” title=”US national debt passes record $40 trillion”>national, a global nonprofit social science research firm
