NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo reported Wednesday that White tweaked his hamstring during Washington’s joint practice with the Miami Dolphins. Despite the injury, Garafolo reported that the issue is not considered serious or expected to keep White out for an extended period, as he did work out before Friday’s preseason matchup against the Dolphins
The revelation clears up the uncertainty surrounding White’s absence after he appeared in a video from the Commanders’ ALS ice bucket challenge on Monday. White was among the players participating when everyone abruptly jumped after cold water was poured over them. Because he appeared healthy in the video before missing two practices, speculation emerged that he might have been hurt during the challenge

White joined Washington during the offseason after spending his first four NFL seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The former 2022 third-round pick signed a one-year, $2 million contract that includes $1.715 million guaranteed, a $400,000 signing bonus and up to $2 million in performance incentives

Through four seasons, White has recorded 2,656 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on 677 carries, while adding 205 receptions for 1,450 yards and 11 receiving touchdowns. In 2025, he played all 17 games and made eight starts, producing 572 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 132 carries, plus 40 catches for 218 yards
White is expected to complement Jacory Croskey-Merritt, who led the team with 805 rushing yards as a rookie. The Commanders also have Jeremy McNichols, Jerome Ford, Kaytron Allen and Robert Henry Jr. in the running back group
