Vita Vea is staying put with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for at least the next two seasons
The two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle and the Bucs have agreed to terms on a one-year extension for $30 million, ESPN Insider Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday. The extension is fully guaranteed, meaning Vea is assured to receive $48 million over the next two years, NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo reported
Vea, who requested a trade earlier this summer, will be under contract with the Bucs through the 2027 season, as he was entering the final year of his current deal
Tampa Bay later announced the extension, which was accompanied by a statement from general manager Jason Licht.
“Vita is exactly the type of player and person we want to build around in Tampa Bay,” Licht said. “He has been a dominant force in the middle of our defense, an exceptional teammate, and a tremendous leader in our locker room. One of the keys to our recent success has been our ability to draft, develop and re-sign core, foundational players who set the standard for what it means to be a Buccaneer. As one of our team leaders, Vita has played a big role in establishing that winning culture, and we are excited to have him continuing to help lead the way as we pursue our next championship.”
