LINCOLN, Maine —
The Lincoln Town Office was closed on Monday due to what town officials called a cybersecurity incident
The town says it was notified by its information technology provider on Saturday that files on parts of the town’s network had been encrypted. Officials say it looks like the incident started as early as Thursday and was impacting several town computer systems, including the main file server and other network infrastructure

Once the issue was discovered, steps were taken to isolate the impacted systems and prevent it from spreading
The town said its IT professionals were looking at backups and working to plan out how to bring all systems back online safely
As of Sunday, the town was still working to determine what information and systems may have been affected. It was not clear how long the Town Office would remain closed
The town said some services would have temporary disruptions while the work to assess the network continued
