BALTIMORE —
AFRO News celebrated its 134 anniversary Thursday by honoring Black entrepreneurs and businesses
The sixth Annual AFRO Black Business Expo was held at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture with a theme of “Powering Prosperity in the Age of AI.”

AFRO CEO and publisher Dr. Frances “Toni” Draper told WBAL-TV 11 News that the expo reflects the newspaper’s longstanding commitment to Baltimore’s Black community while looking toward the future
The expo also featured the second annual Power Pitch competition, which gives entrepreneurs an opportunity to pitch their businesses before judges and a live audience. The competition offers cash awards and other re
This year’s Power Pitch winners include:
- Hyacinth Tucker, Founder & CEO, Laundry Basket
- Aniya Keene, Principal, TestPatient
- Eean Logan, Principal, I Got Drive
The competition included 60 entries
The Laundry Basket, which won the competition, is a laundry subscription service that has been featured in The Guardian. The service is not only for people, but corporations as well, including Amazon, Delta Airlines and the PGA
