The Boston Red Sox have undoubtedly been the best team in Major League Baseball over the past month or so, despite losing the past two games against the Athletics. The Red Sox have finally lost a series, which comes as a major surprise considering how well they’ve played over the past month and a half.
Still, this is Major League Baseball and teams can’t win every single day, so the Red Sox simply have to get back on track and do what they’ve been doing
It’s interesting to think about how much better this team has been without Alex Cora as its manager. Cora, who has found a lot of success in Major League Baseball as a coach, unfortunately just couldn’t get through to the guys at the level that manager Chad Tracy seemingly has.
With Tracy taking the job later in the season, the idea of him winning the American League Manager of the Year Award seemed very unlikely. However, according to one MLB insider, he’s viewed as the favorite at the moment
“Chicago White Sox manager Will Venable looked like a lock virtually all season for the American League manager of the year award. Then, along came the Red Sox’s historic surge, and now Boston’s interim manager Chad Tracy is the favorite heading into the final six weeks,” Bob Nightengale wrote
If the Red Sox can somehow play at a ridiculous pace once again over the next month or so prior to the regular season ending, Tracy probably deserves the award.
If Boston goes on an average stretch, and the Chicago White Sox end up making the postseason, currently in first place in the American League Central, voters will have a tough time deciding who they want to give the award to between him and Will Venable
