The latest streaming and TV ratings, box office grosses, industry data — and narratives behind the numbers.Updated daily: Aug. 7, 2026Edited by Erik Hayden and Rick Porter
↑ The final week of Love Island USA’s eighth season was the show’s biggest one on record — for the second time this season. The Peacock hit recorded just under 2 billion minutes of viewing time (1.997 billion, to be precise) for the week
↑ Project Hail Mary led the movie charts for a second straight week with 922 million minutes on Prime Video, growing about 7 percent week to week
↑ Dutton Ranch remained in the top 10 a week after its season finale on Paramount+, drawing 509 million minutes of viewing. Elle had 499 million minutes of watch time for Prime Video, identical to its premiere week. Apple TV’s Silo (385 million) also re-entered the charts a week after its third season premiered
↑ Streaming chart fixture Bluey took up two spots in the acquired show rankings thanks to Disney+ launching a separately titled Bluey Compilations — 45-minute blocks of similarly themed episodes. The nine compilations drew 641 million viewing minutes, while the full series had 872 million
↑ While 60 Minutes led the week, Who Wants to Be a Millionairescored a season high, and its biggest audience since last year, as Ben Affleck and Jeopardy!champ Jamie Ding claimed a million-dollar win for their charity, Eastern Congo Initiative

↑ Spider-Man: Brand New Dayscored $932 million in its debut weekend from 67 territories, the No. 2 bow of all-time behind the $1.2 billion record from Avengers: Endgame in 2019. Meanwhile, The Odyssey has already passed the $900 million mark globally in just three weekends. AMC Theatres, the world’s largest chain, said 10.2 million moviegoers flocked to its screens over 5 days and set what it touted as its “highest weekend revenue mark in the company’s 106-year history.” Rivals Cinemark and Marcus Theatres both similarly reported record weekends.
↑ Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day scored $355 million from 4,487 North American screens to land as the second-biggest domestic launch ever. That marks a photo finish between Spidey and Avengers: Endgame, as the latter’s $357.1 million opening from April 2019 ultimately hung on to retain its title as the No. 1 all-time domestic opening frame. Meanwhile, Universal’s The Odyssey travels to second place with $51 million and a domestic total of $395.5 million
↑ Only a few short years ago the annual message from Hollywood had been “scripted TV show orders and premieres are once again rising — and have hit a new record.” That time is far in the rearview mirror now. As a new midyear report from data platform Luminate outlines, TV premieres across nearly all categories are declining. The collapse of the cable TV ecosystem is a big factor, but the retreat in the subscription video on-demand (SVOD) space is just as notable as Netflix’s rivals pull back from directly challenging the streaming giant with sheer quantity of project orders. Notice, however, the slight rise in shows ordered for free streaming platforms. Watch that space.
↑ With all attention on a rapidly consolidating media industry, a look at Nielsen’s latest Media Distributor Gauge is striking: Yes, YouTube is still dominating, but look at Paramount (which includes CBS and Paramount+) in this ranking just below Netflix in total TV use. “Netflix received a boost from acquired series La Brea, which was the second most-streamed title of the month with over 4 billion viewing minutes,” Nielsen noted. And that’s before Paramount CEO David Ellison will get to add in Warner Bros. Discovery’s 6 percent share if his $111 billion deal eventually closes. Another wild card, keep in mind that if Lachlan Murdoch has his way that 3 percent you see on The Roku Channel will be added in to Fox if his $22 billion deal closes.
↑ Ragtime hit close to $2 million as the best musical revival winner nears the end of its run. The production brought in $1.89 million, as the fifth highest grossing show of the week and its highest gross yet, with the average ticket price hitting an eye-popping $224. This was the highest average ticket price of the week, besting Hamilton’s average ticket price by $4. The musical is set to end its run Aug. 16
