Miss. (WDAM) – Southeast Mississippi Rural Health Initiative wrapped up its celebration of National Health Center Week Saturday with a special event at the Forrest County Campus of Pearl River Community College
A Senior Wellness Day capped off that recognition, which celebrates accessible primary care offered at the nation’s 1,512 community health centers
SEMRHI’s Senior Wellness Days are monthly events, offering free health screening activities for the Hub City’s senior community
Saturday’s focus was on eye health
The featured speaker was Hattiesburg optometrist Ann Williams
She spoke about the importance of getting regular eye exams
“Even if you think you’re Ok, you still need an eye exam,” Williams said
“Eye exams are a way to identify diseases before they become relative to the person’s condition. Eye exams can be helpful with making sure your driving skills are good, your mobility skills are good, checking for medication side effects.”
SEMRHI’s next Senior Wellness Day will be held Sept. 12, also at PRCC’s Forrest County Campus
