United States Rep. Marcy Kaptur was involved in a car crash Aug. 2 and has been hospitalized
Kaptur, a Toledo democrat and longest-serving congresswoman in America’s history, was on her way to a church service when her car was struck, her spokesperson Ben Kamens said in an emailed statement. She is “active, alert and being treated for non-life threatening injuries,” he said
Kaptur was a passenger in the vehicle during the crash, Kamens said. Multiple Toledo news outlets reported the accident as a hit-and-run at approximately 10:48 a.m., as told to them by the Toledo Police Department. One other person was hospitalized, Toledo outlets reported, though it is not clear who
The Toledo Police Department declined to confirm details about the nature of the crash or offer further information
But Kaptur’s office thanked Toledo police and other first responders for their “quick actions,” as well as the medical professionals “helping to take care of those involved in the crash.”
“We look forward to additional information from Toledo Police as they investigate the accident,” Kamens said in the emailed statement
“She expressed her deep gratitude to the hundreds of constituents who have reached out and looks forward to returning to a full schedule soon,” he said

Republican Derek Merrin, former Ohio state representative and Kaptur’s opponent in the race for Ohio’s 9th <a href="https://todaytrendnews7.com/tennessee-congressional-candidate-arrested-for-shooting-flock-safety-cameras/” title=”Tennessee Congressional Candidate Arrested for Shooting Flock Safety Cameras”>congressional district, posted on social media Aug. 2, saying he was saddened at the news of the accident. Merrin asked that people “join me in praying for her speedy recovery and all those injured in the crash.”
Fellow Democratic Congresswoman Emilia Sykes posted that she was “relieved” to learn that Kaptur and others were being treated for their injuries and “recovering well.” She extended her prayers for Kaptur, as well as her thanks for first responders
Former lieutenant governor and current Republican U.S. Sen. Jon Husted also posted to social media, saying that he and his wife Tina were “praying for a quick and full recovery” for Kaptur and hope that anyone “responsible for this reckless act” would be held accountable
