Actors Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman continue to stay married despite separating nearly a decade ago
The couple officially separated in 2017, but they never bothered to get a divorce. As DeVito, 81, told AARP this week, neither one of them sees the point of it. In fact, they talk to each other daily, have weekly meals together, and he frequently visits her home to see their children and grandchildren
“We see the grandchildren together, that kind of stuff,” DeVito said. “So that’s a good relationship,” he told the outlet
DeVito and Perlman share three adult children: Lucy, 43; Grace, 41; and Jacob, 38. Their history together spans more than 50 years, beginning when they met in 1971 at an off-Broadway production. They moved in together shortly after and married in January 1982
Throughout their careers, the actors appeared as co-stars in the television series “Taxi” and the 1996 film “Matilda.”
Perlman has also addressed their decision to avoid a legal divorce, telling the New York Post in 2018 that there was no practical reason for it
“We’ve been together a very long time, so there’s a lot of love and history,” she said. “We agree on enough things, so why ruin that with the yucky things that come with a divorce?,” she told the outlet
