Miss. (WLOX) — The Mississippi Artificial Intelligence Network (MAIN) is offering no-cost training and education to help residents understand and apply artificial intelligence in their personal and professional lives
MAIN Director Dr. Kollin Napier said the program is open to any Mississippian
“It doesn’t matter if you’re on the Gulf Coast, if you’re in the capital or beyond, it is there and available for you to be educated about AI, but also earn certifications and even CEUs for our K-12 educators,” Napier said
Residents can sign up for available courses online. Napier said courses are self-paced and offered online, with in-person workshops and events held periodically for hands-on training
Napier said the program prioritizes education because artificial intelligence continues to evolve rapidly and is already embedded in daily life
“AI has been there for several decades, and it will continue to be, so we need to make sure that Mississippians are equipped to understand it and apply it in their day-to-day professional lives as well as their personal lives,” Napier said
He said a key focus is combating misinformation about what AI is and how it works
“We use it every day through navigation apps and GPS, through social media, shopping, media intake, and more. So as we continue to see that evolution, how can you use it to empower you in your work and the things that you do day in and day out,” Napier said
Napier said MAIN works with other agencies, including Accelerate Mississippi, to align AI education with workforce and economic development goals
“AI is that capability layer that we see applied to all occupations, all sectors,” Napier said
He said the effort is aimed at preparing both current workers and future generations for careers in which AI will play a growing role
