The end of July/start of August brings some of the year’s biggest films to streaming services, just in time for a summer weekend watch. From a Boston-filmed dark comedy to a very fashionable big-budget sequel, here are five new movies and TV shows to stream

‘The Drama’
Robert Pattinson and Zendaya were the talk of the town when filming for “The Drama” took over the Hub in 2024. The film was also all moviegoers and critics could talk about in the first part of 2026. The dark comedy follows an engaged couple’s wedding journey, which gets derailed by the reveal of a dark secret. The scandal at the core of director-writer Kristoffer Borgli’s (“Dream Scenario”) latest movie evoked strong reactions from viewers. ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’
For folks looking for a family movie night, the animated sequel “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” is now streaming on Peacock. In this follow-up to 2023’s “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” Chris Pratt is back as the fan-favorite video game character turned big-screen star Mario, with Charlie Day and Anya Taylor-Joy also back as Luigi and Princess Peach, respectively. The adventures head to outer space, with a number of new voice actors joining the fun, including Donald Glover as Yoshi, Glen Powell as Fox McCloud, and Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina. ‘Lioness’
Paramount’s king of TV Taylor Sheridan is back with a new season of the female-led spy series “Lioness.” Premiering Sunday on Paramount+, season 3 follows Zoe Saldaña’s Joe as she faces more dangerous enemies, with a press release promising the collision of “hidden networks, foreign operatives, and personal betrayals.” “Lioness” also stars Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Kelly. Season 3 debuts Sunday on Paramount+
Binge-worthy TV pick
‘Batman: Caped Crusader’
Between “Spider-Noir” and “Batman: Caped Crusader,” Prime Video has found quite a bit of success showcasing popular superheroes with a pulpy noir twist. From executive producers J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves, and Bruce Timm, “Caped Crusader” returns for season 2, with all 10 new episodes dropping Friday on the streaming service. Hamish Linklater, who recently earned an Emmy nomination for his guest role on the New England-set series “Widow’s Bay,” returns to voice billionaire Bruce Wayne and his Batman alter ego. ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’
Back on the big-screen runway after two decades, “The Devil Wears Prada 2″ was a surprisingly great follow-up to the 2006 original. Anne Hathaway returns as former Runway magazine assistant and now-star journalist Andy Sachs, who’s in need of a new gig following a devastating layoff. Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly, now facing her own challenges in a media industry in decline, reluctantly brings Andy back into the Runway fold as the new features editor, with the pair teaming up to try to save the magazine. The sequel, now streaming on Disney+ and Hulu, also stars returning cast members Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, plus newcomer and Newton native B.J. Novak.Available on Disney+ and Hulu
