Fashion Week of Cape Cod will return to Orleans with a new festival-style format featuring runway shows, live entertainment, food vendors and a fundraising partnership for a local nonprofit
The event will be held Aug. 16 at Town Cove Tap House, 22A Main St,, Orleans, according to a community announcement. Organizers said the redesigned format will expand beyond fashion shows to include a daylong gathering with local designers, artisans, music, food and activities for attendees
More than 20 local designers are expected to present new collections on the runway. Models from Signed MGMT, including individuals scouted on Cape Cod and elsewhere in Massachusetts, will showcase the designs. A pop-up marketplace also will feature merchandise from local makers, with some runway pieces available for purchase
Featured designers include Artichoke, Arsenia’s Arts, Cape Cod Chokers, Devinto, Coastal Bridal Boutique, Found Coast, Jarrett Daniels, Joey Mars, Ken Tailor, Kilt Plus, Mijiza Images, Minted Supply, Mira Wear, Out of Office, Sandbar Denim and Zaegment highlighting nail polish colors on the models
Festival activities are slated to include food trucks, a dirty soda cart, beverages from Town Cove Tap House and live music by the band “Watch Your Step.” Attendees also can visit a charm and patch bar hosted by Cape Cod Chokers
Organizers said the event is collaborating with the Homeless Prevention Council in Orleans to raise money through a silent auction. According to the announcement, the auction will feature items donated by designers, vendors and local businesses. The nonprofit provides case management services designed to help residents maintain stable housing and improve financial security
The Homeless Prevention Council has served more than 56,000 people since its founding in 1991, according to the announcement
A new student showcase will feature design work from high school and college students. Participating students are Odin Mahony, Viva Swim, Eva Luna Reyes Cruz, Ray Whiteley and Xanti Hassan
“Showing young people a non-traditional path in a non-traditional business is something I am very passionate about,” organizer Erin Scimeca said. “I am most excited to see what these incredible young talents have created and give them a chance to engage with people who are doing this as a full time business. We hope for this segment to become something bigger and giving this opportunity to even more teens!”
The runway event also will showcase boards from the Orleans Chamber’s “Boards in the Stores” program
The boards were designed by local artists and are displayed in participating Orleans businesses and in a gallery space next to the Chamber of Commerce on Main Street. Organizers said attendees will have an opportunity to view the boards during the runway presentation and bid on them
Signed MGMT is owned by Erin Scimeca, a former New York City model agent who spent 23 years in the industry before returning to Massachusetts. According to the announcement, Scimeca previously worked with major fashion agencies and was involved in discovering models, including actor Krysten Ritter
