Becoming a member of the Dallas Mavericks marks the realization of a dream Sergio De Larrea had for years. This year’s NBA Draft finally paved the way for the young guard, and he is now preparing to begin his professional journey in the NBA

De Larrea reflected on the opportunity during an exclusive interview with The Smoking Cuban in Las Vegas during the opening days of the Summer League. He also shared how he envisions his role at the NBA level
“Try to be in as much as positions as I can play. Let’s see in the future I can play more positions, and this is gonna be for me to be a better player and be more versatile,” he said
De Larrea was originally selected by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 25th overall pick in the first round of the 2026 NBA Draft before his draft rights were later dealt to the Dallas Mavericks. He officially signed his rookie contract with Dallas in July, completing his move from Valencia Basket to the NBA organization
Serving as Dallas’ primary playmaker during the 2026 NBA Summer League, De Larrea impressed with his outstanding passing ability and court vision. Across four Summer League games, he averaged 8.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 8.8 assists per game

According to Eurohoops, the Mavericks intend to keep De Larrea overseas as a draft-and-stash prospect. As a result, he is not expected to leave Valencia for the North American league during the 2026-27 season
