The NFL world was shocked by the news of San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan’s car accident, in which he was seriously injured
The news has shaken the NFL and its fans because no one knew. It was just discovered yesterday when the team announced it in a statement to the media

According to ESPN, Shanahan broke his nose, three ribs, and his hand, needed more than 40 stitches in his face, and suffered a severe concussion during a July 14 car crash when he collided with an SUV near his northern California home, according to
49ers general manager John Lynch spoke on how the team will handle his absence
“Kyle basically is going to be like in the protocol,” Lynch said. “And we’re going to let the doctors dictate how he comes back, when he comes back. He’s been in the building, so we’ve seen him. It’s kind of like we do with our players, a phased back approach. Number one for Kyle and the Shanahan family is getting him back right.”
What is stunning about all of this, besides the obvious, is how no one knew. No one in the media or among fans knew, and if they did, they didn’t leak it to the press

Naturally, NFL fans were shocked at the news, especially 49ers fans—some question why the team kept this hidden for so long
“Shanahan’s car accident — it’s probably innocent, but I’m now investigating it for 3 reasons: 1.) Someone waited 11 days and leaked this information to Adam Schefter on a Saturday when open records offices are closed and when this story will get eaten by the news cycle. Highly unusual. 2.) We’ve already seen that just showing a head coach’s text messages can apparently get you out of trouble with police. I can imagine that actually BEING a head coach comes with similar privileges. 3.) We all gave Brandon Ayiuk crap for allegedly wreckless driving. If the head coach of the 49ers was doing the same thing, he deserves the same level of scrutiny and curiosity from us, if not more. Again, it’s probably nothing. Kyle seems like a great dude. But I’m going to have a peak just to make sure.”
Other fans think it’s a nothing burger and that some fans are overreacting
This has to be the strangest sports story to come out this week since a Brazilian soccer player decided to skip his team’s soccer match for a poker tournament. Strange goings on indeed
