The highest-scoring team in the CFL from Calgary continued their blistering pace this season and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers couldn’t keep up

In front of a sold-out crowd at Princess Auto Stadium Friday night, the fans were treated to a ton of points, but it was the Stampeders putting up many more in a 52-30 victory over the Bombers
Winnipeg’s loss drops them to 4-3 on the season, while the Stamps move closer to the Bombers in the West Division standings, improving to 3-4
Tyreik McAllister scored three first half touchdowns for Calgary
It was rough night for Bombers QB Dru Brown, making his third start in place of Zach Collaros. Brown tossed four interceptions, and Winnipeg’s six turnovers were a big reason for their defeat. It was the first time Brown has lost to the Stamps in his career after going 4-0 previously against Calgary
It was a tough game for the Bombers in all three phases, offence, defence, and especially on special teams with a blocked punt while also giving up a missed field goal return TD
“Not nearly good enough,” said head coach Mike O’Shea. “You don’t want to turn that into a track meet. They didn’t have a lot of rest either but I’m certainly not saying that you know, but you certainly don’t want to get in a track meet against a good offence like that. You got to just play much cleaner football and try and just hold that score down until offence drives, or until the defence gets stops
“Too many penalties, too many mistakes and it adds up to this.”
The Bombers had seven penalty flags for 75 yards
Brown completed just 24 of his 40 passes for 249 yards with one TD and the four costly picks
“It was tough,” said Brown. “Disappointed in how I took care of the football tonight. So, I’ll wear that. But I didn’t feel like I gave us quite a chance there.”

It was a milestone-setting night for Calgary on several fronts. Stamps QB Vernon Adams Jr. continued his incredible start to the season, throwing for 319 yards with three more touchdown passes and no interceptions
He now has 20 touchdowns and no picks on the season and dating back to last season, his 21 straight TDs without an interception is a CFL record

One of the passes was to McAllister, who had an unforgettable first half. McAllister recorded a receiving touchdown, rushing touchdown, and a 118-yard missed field goal return for a touchdown all in the game’s first 30 minutes. He becomes the first player in CFL history to score three touchdowns in three different ways in one game, and the missed field goal return really hurt the blue and gold, putting them down by 15 points in the second quarter
“He’s really good,” said O’Shea. “He reverses field after coming out and by then I think our guys don’t have angles and he’s really, really good.”
The Bombers were down by 19 points in the third quarter and forced back-to-back turnovers to climb back within nine points, but two straight interceptions pretty much sealed their fate
“Frustrating because on the sidelines, we’re communicating, saying that we’re absolutely in this, we’re right in it,” said running back Brady Oliveira. “We’re not sustaining drives. We would come off, defence goes on the field and defence is holding them and keeping us in this game. And we just couldn’t capitalize on those.”

McAllister’s first touchdown, a 17-yard run, capped off a quick three-play drive for the Stamps in the first quarter that went 59 yards
That touchdown plus a punt single gave Calgary an 8-0 lead after one quarter
After a Nic Demski 37-yard receiving touchdown got the Bombers to within one, McAllister struck again, catching a 56-yard pass from Adams to put the Stamps up 15-7
And then he completed the touchdown trifecta later in the quarter, returning a Sergio Castillo missed field goal 118 yards to the endzone
The Bombers bounced back with a productive drive, capped off by an Oliveira 13-yard touchdown run, and after the teams exchanged field goals, Calgary took a 25-17 lead into halftime
Much like the first half, the Stamps wasted little time to start the second half as Jalen Philpot caught a pass, broke several tackles and ran 69 yards to the endzone
The teams traded touchdowns to round out the quarter with Tevin Jones catching a seven-yard pass from Adams and Oliveira recording his second touchdown of the game on a 45-yard run
The Bombers were unable to find enough offence to get back in the game. Dedrick Mills’ 37-yard touchdown run late in the game put the Stamps past the 50-point mark
Oliveira had a strong night on the ground for the Bombers in the loss, picking up 128 yards rushing on top of his two touchdowns. He became just the fifth Canadian to go over 6,000 rushing yards for his career
Bombers offensive lineman Jarell Broxton left the game late in the first half with an injury and did not return. Gabe Wallace slid over to right tackle in the second half
The Bombers will wait less than a week for their next game, as they’ll host the BC Lions on Thursday at Princess Auto Stadium
