The U.S. Department of Energy announced that it will make up to $218.5 available to federally recognized tribes and corporations for energy efficiency upgrades for tribal homes
The funding is part of the High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebate (HEEHR) Program, created under the Inflation Reduction Act to help reduce household energy costs through rebates for qualifying electric appliances, heating and cooling systems, insulation, wiring and other efficiency improvements. Under the tribal program, each tribe is eligible for a formula-based allocation
The DOE recently released updated guidance for the HEEHR program. The agency also released tribes’ formula funding allocations and extended the application deadline to Dec. 11. DOE said the revised guidance is intended to streamline program administration and give tribes more flexibility in designing rebate programs
The DOE will host an online informational session on the program, updated guidance and next steps towards application for applying on July 28 at 2 p.m. EDT. Tribes and tribal organizations can register through the program’s registration page
Additional assistance and implementation support are also available for tribes that want to participate in this program
