Alphabet maintains the largest online index of websites accessible through automated search technology. It generates revenue through online advertising, cloud services, and consumer devices. Google is an operating segment of Alphabet. The company was founded in 1998 by Sergey Brin and Larry Page and went public in 2004.
Google’s AdWords is an auction-based program that lets businesses display ads along with particular search results. Google’s AdSense program enables websites in the company’s network to serve targeted ads, based on search terms or web content, from AdWords advertisers. Most of the revenue generated through AdSense is shared with network partners. In addition, Alphabet owns YouTube.com, the web-based video site. It has expanded into mobile telephony with its Android smartphone operating system, into cloud services with Google Cloud, and into autonomous driving with its Waymo subsidiary. About 52% of Alphabet’s revenue is generated outside the U.S.

Price Target
The stock market was hit with a combination of body blows on Thursday, as GOOGL declined 7% and TSLA plummeted 14.5% after reporting results. In addition, WTI popped over 6% while Treasury yields all rose yet again. One trusty indicator that has been bearish since early June is the 21-day CBOE equity-only put/call (P/C) ratio. With daily P/Cs rising since late May, the 21-day turned higher on June 5. A 21-day that is in a sustained uptrend generally is bearish for stocks. The five-day P/C is at 0.68, so it has yet to show any levels of fear. That’s not surprising as the S&P 500 has gone sideways without any suffering any major technical damage. Still, the S&P 500 has lost its 50-day moving average and the index tested the bottom of its triangle on Thursday, as well as its 13-day exponential average near 7,375. Immediate chart support is at 7,300, the flattening 21-week exponential is at 7,258, and the June 9 pullback low is at 7,238. The QQQ (at 692) has broken its triangle and is close to its recent low of 686. While there is Fibonacci retracement support at 674 and 651 from the 38.2% and 50% pullbacks, there isn’t any chart support until the 625-630 region, which is also the location of the 61.8% retracement.
Alphabet is a holding company that wholly owns internet giant Google. The California-based company derives slightly less than 90% of its revenue from Google services, the vast majority of which is advertising sales. Alongside online ads, Google services houses sales stemming from Google’s subscription services (YouTube TV and YouTube Music, among others), platforms (sales and in-app purchases on Play Store), and devices (Chromebooks, Pixel smartphones, and smart home products such as Chromecast). Google’s cloud computing platform accounts for roughly 10% of Alphabet’s revenue. The firm’s investments in up-and-coming technologies such as self-driving cars (Waymo), health (Verily), and internet access (Google Fiber) make up the rest.

Price Target
The stock market hasn’t done a whole lot over the past two months — but moves in individual names have provided some action. The next few weeks could tell us if the major indices embark on a new leg higher or if the current pullback or consolidation has further to go in both price and time. Earnings reports this week and next are heavily tilted toward mega-cap technology stocks, with GOOGL, TSLA, IBM, NOW and TXN reporting on Wednesday and INTC and SAP posting on Thursday. In addition, IBKR, SCHW, BX, COF, MMM, GM, NOC, LMT, RTX, DHI, PHM, GEV, MCO, CME, and HON release results this week.
