Les Fuller has been named Director of Information Technology for the College of Natural Re
A familiar face to generations of faculty, staff, and students, Fuller has served the college’s Information Technology department for nearly four decades. He joined Virginia Tech in 1987 as the first computer analyst in the School of Forestry and Wildlife Reechnology infrastructure through decades of growth and innovation
Fuller succeeds Lon Weber, who retired after 38years of dedicated service to the college
“Les has been a dedicated member of the CNRE community for many years, he understands our college, our people, and our mission,” said Dean Saskia van de Gevel. “I am thrilled that he has accepted the role of Director of Information Technology. His leadership, institutional knowledge, and genuine commitment to helping others will ensure we continue providing outstanding technology support for our faculty, staff, and students.”
During his career, Fuller has witnessed, and helped lead, an extraordinary transformation in technology at Virginia Tech. He began his career supporting a single computer lab equipped with IBM computers that relied on dual floppy disk drives. Since then, Fuller has helped guide the college through the introduction of email, the growth of the internet and the World Wide Web, the expansion of campus computing, and today’s rapidly evolving landscape of cloud computing, <a href="https://todaytrendnews7.com/israeli-startups-dominate-googles-ai-cybersecurity-accelerator/” title=”Israeli startups dominate Google's AI cybersecurity accelerator”>cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.
“When I started at Virginia Tech in 1987, we were just beginning to imagine how technology could transform teaching, research, and service,” Fuller said. “It’s been a privilege to grow alongside this college and help support generations of faculty, staff, and students as technology has evolved. I’m honored to step into this role and continue building on the strong foundation that our IT team have established.”
Fuller earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in forestry and forest biostatistics from Michigan Technological University. Throughout his career, he has remained committed to providing reliable, responsive technology services that enable the college’s teaching, research, and outreach mission
Joining Fuller in the Division of Information Technology is Amanda Swindell, who will strengthen the college’s information technology team with expertise in information security and technology operations. Fuller and Swindell will continue to work with existing team members Steve Lewis and Erica Balsley
“Amanda brings valuable IT security experience and a fresh perspective, and together she and Les will build on the strong foundation already in place,” van de Gevel said. “Finally, I want to express my sincere gratitude to Lon for his many years of dedicated service as Director of Information Technology. His leadership has had a lasting impact on our college, and we wish him all the very best in his well-earned retirement.”
