After a three-year stint in Detroit, Patrick Kane is heading back to the team that drafted him
The Buffalo, N.Y., native signed a two-year, $16-million contract with the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday, per Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman
Kane, 37, was drafted first overall to Chicago in 2007, where he spent 16 seasons and was a key part of the Blackhawks’ dynasty that won three Stanley Cups in 2010, 2013 and 2015. Â
In 2023, Kane was traded to the New York Rangers, where he would play the remainder of the season before signing a series of one-year deals with the Detroit Red Wings from 2023-26
Last season, Kane netted 16 goals and 41 assists in 67 games for the Red Wings. For his career, he’s played in 1,369 NHL games, with 508 goals and 892 assists.Â
On Jan. 29, Kane became the highest-scoring United States-born player in NHL history, passing Mike Modano, who previously held the record for 18 years
