Partners host thrift-store fashion challenge to teach Las Vegas youth budgeting (KSNV)
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) —For about 20 young people in Las Vegas, back-to-school shopping came with a lesson in budgeting and personal style
The Las Vegas Rescue Mission, Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada, and SilverSummit Healthplan partnered to host a back-to-school shopping event that included a “Fashion Face Off” challenge. Youth from local Boys & Girls Clubs were given the chance to thrift for the new school year while learning how to create, style, and budget outfits
Each participant, ages 10 to 18, received $100 from SilverSummit Healthplan to shop for clothing and other back-to-school essentials at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission’s Thrift Store
After shopping, the youth worked in a joint effort to create a collection of three outfits built around specific themes: First Day of School, Dream Vacation, and Dream Job. The collections are set to be judged on creativity, overall style, how well each outfit matches its theme, and how effectively teams maximize their budget
