The Bruins Still Have An Incredibly Important Move To Make

Will the Bruins address this need before the start of the season?
The Boston Bruins have made a handful of moves this off-season. They most notably acquired JJ Peterka from the Utah Mammoth in a big swap. They also added to their blueline by bringing in defensemen Will Borgen and Connor Clifton. Goaltender Joonas Korpisalo was also traded to the New York Rangers
While the Bruins have made some changes to their group this off-season, they have still not addressed their biggest need: adding a true first-line center.
It is no secret that the Bruins need a true star center if they hope to become legitimate contenders again. This has been the case since Patrice Bergeron retired following the 2022-23 season. Elias Lindholm, who the Bruins signed to a seven-year, $54.25 million contract during the 2024 NHL off-season, has not been the answer for their 1C problem.

While the Bruins undoubtedly need to add a first-line center, it is going to be incredibly challenging for them to add one before the start of the season. Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin is arguably the only true 1C trade candidate in the NHL. Yet, the Bruins are not believed to be on his trade list
Seattle Kraken center Shane Wright is not a first-line player at this stage in his career, but he could still have the potential to change that. At just 22 years old, he still has time to truly break out. Yet, his best season so far was in 2024-25, when he recorded 19 goals and 44 points in 79 games with Seattle. He followed that up last season by posting 12 goals and 27 points in 74 games.
Overall, it will be challenging for the Bruins to figure out their 1C problem ahead of the season. Yet, until they land a true first-line center, it’s going to be hard for them to become a real threat again in the Eastern Conference.
