Rabid fox confirmed in Georgetown County; person, dog exposed

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WCIV) —A rabid fox confirmed in Georgetown County exposed one person and one dog, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Health
The fox was found near Plantersville Road and North Fraser Street in Georgetown and tested positive for rabies July 16. The person has been referred to a healthcare provider, while the dog will be quarantined under state law
The case marks Georgetown County’s first confirmed rabies case of 2026. State health officials said 59 rabid animals have been confirmed statewide this year
