How much do investment bank technology jobs really pay?

Want to work in technology for a bank? The good news is that there’s plenty of opportunity, the bad news is that it doesn’t always pay well
In our 2026 salary and bonus survey earlier this year, we broke down compensation for technologists in banking and finance at every level from analyst to MD. We found that pay for junior professionals had fallen drastically, despite being quite low in the first place. In 2025, technology analysts saw their compensation fall 36% to just $67k
There are multiple reasons for this. For one, the survey was global, and the pay figures were brought down by an influx of technology talent outbal capability centres (GCCs) for various banks. Evenlow-cost US talent, brought in on H1B visas, are susceptible to being replaced by staff in GCCs
Technology staff are also often the ones that get hard done by when banks trim bonuses. In last year’s bonus round, insiders told us tech was “rinsed” and that banks got away with underpaying tech staff “because they could.” The cuts seem to have been focused on lower level employees
Your experience will vary from bank to bank. When we analyzed 2025 data from Levels.fyi for Goldman Sachs andJPMorgan, we found that both banks paid their US staff above $100k. Staff in India earned closer to $30k in each bank
It’s a particularly brutal time to work in finance as a technology contractor. Banks have been highlighting and celebrating how many temp staff they’ve been able to get rid of, all the while pay has been driven down in recent years. Contractors told us last year that roles which used to pay £1k per day now pay closer to £750
