Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander can officially add yet another All-Star nod to his Hall of Fame résumé
Verlander, a three-time Cy Young winner and former MVP, has only appeared in one game for the Tigers this season. He gave up five runs on six hits in just over three innings worth of work. Despite owning a 12.27 ERA this year, Verlander has been added to the American League’s roster for the 2026 All-Star Game

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred announced Wednesday that Verlander has been selected to the AL roster as a “Legend Pick.”
Judging by the responses on social media, MLB fans aren’t that thrilled about Verlander making the All-Star team for a 10th time

“Bro won the ‘Please retire already’ award,” one fan said
“He’s throwing out the ceremonial first solo home run,” a second fan joked
“So let me get this straight you can name a guy who has pitched in exactly 1 game this year to the all star game but not name a guy who is 9-1 with a 2.28 ERA,” a third fan commented

“An absolute joke that Justin Verlander will now get recognized as an all star but not Zack Wheeler just an absolute joke,” another fan declared
Right or wrong move by the MLB?
While we totally understand why some fans are frustrated about Verlander being included in the All-Star Game, the reality is the MLB is trying to honor one of the greatest pitchers of the past two decades
Verlander, 43, has a career 3.33 ERA with 3,554 strikeouts. He’s set to retire from the MLB after this season is over

We don’t blame the MLB one bit for wanting to honor Verlander next Tuesday at Citizens Bank Park
