The Great Southern Brevet is a self-supported Bikepacking event in the lower South Island of New Zealand. As a biannual event, it trades places with the Tour Te Waipounamu every January. Conceived by Dave King in 2012, the GSB, as it is fondly known, is not an event to take lightly. With almost 20,000 meters of climbing along the 1,100-kilometer route, riders must contend with the unpredictable New Zealand weather in the mountains.
Nearly 200 riders took off from Lake Tekapo at this year’s grand depart last month. Rob Dawson of Ride Productions NZ captured all the excitement and released the official event video. Watch it below.
